Training Manual Supplement
This training manual supplement is the companion to
the in-game Basic Training, providing additional details and the latest
information gathered about the Shlongg threat.
It is divided into two sections. The first is a briefing on the different life
forms that make up the Shlongg Dominion. The second details different aspects
of the Shlongg Hive.

There are 12 types of Shlongg that we have encountered to date. Some have
common characteristics, others are very specialised for their roles in the
Hive, and some appear to be in the pupal stages of development. The following
chart details our current knowledge of the enemy:
"The Goalie"
|
The Goalie is the Shlongg Dominion's first line of defense. While it will not
physically attack your ship, it will attempt to block the energy spheres from
reaching the crystals and larvae.
Because of this nature, it has a very tough exoskeleton and usually requires
many hits to destroy.

"The Chucker"
|
The Chucker is a more specialized form of The Goalie. It will also attempt to
block energy spheres from reaching the crystals and larvae, but if given the
chance it will grasp an energy sphere in it's talons and attempt to throw it
out of the chamber.
|
"The Bomber"
|
The Bomber has a similar look to the Goalie and Chucker, but acts quite
differently. It's exoskeleton is much weaker, so it will stay behind the
chamber's crystals. It makes up for this weakness by attacking your ship with
Bomb Power Darts.
|
"The Dropper"
|
The Dropper acts like the Bomber, but is less specialized: It will attack your
ship with different types of Power Darts.
|
"ClusterBomber"
|
The ClusterBomber's attack is among the most deadly you will face. Once it's
bomb is a safe distance from it, it splits into several pieces that home-in on
your ships position at the time of the split.
The ClusterBomber's exoskeleton is of medium strength, so it can be a challenge
to destroy while trying to dodge it's attacks.

"ClusterDropper"
|
Just as the Dropper is a less specialized Bomber, the ClusterDropper is a less
specialized ClusterBomber. It's attack will split into several pieces that
home-in one your ships position, but not all of the pieces are Bombs.
|
"The Creeper"
|
The Creeper is a slug-like Shlongg. It travels back and forth across the level,
slowly making it's way to the chamber's entrance. If it makes it to your ship,
your ship will be destroyed. Fortunately it moves slowly and has a thin skin so
it is usually easy to deal with.

"Paralyzer"
|
The Paralyzer is a similar to The Creeper, but smaller and with different
behaviour. It will sometimes be present in the chamber, and sometimes they
emerge from late stage larvae when they are destroyed.
The Paralyzer travels straight to the chamber's entrance. If it hits your ship,
your ship will be disabled for a second.

"The Gunner"
|
The Gunner is a deadly adversary that will attack you with the same plasma
rounds your ship aquires with the Guns Power Seed. The Gunner seems to create
these rounds internally, as strange behaviour can be observed in it's body
between volleys. Your ship can only survive a few hits before being destroyed.

"The Sweeper"
|
The Sweeper is very specialized and is only found in the Tunnels. It's function
seems to be related to the maintenance of the tunnels themselves. They have
extremely tough exoskeletons, and are nearly impossible to destroy.

"Shoss"
|
Shoss is the "Bull" Shlongg. It protects the entrance to the Queen's chamber
and will do anything to keep your ship out. Unlike all the other enemies, Shoss
can survive in a chamber once all the energy crystals have been destroyed.
Shoss' exoskeleton is almost impervious to damage. The only way to hurt him is
to hit him in the beak while it is open.

"The Queen"
|
The Queen must die. She lies at the heart of the Hive and continues to breed
new Shlongg Warriors. If she is not stopped, it will mean the end for us all.

|
The Shlongg Hive is a poly-dimensional series of ever expanding chambers and
connecting tunnels that the Shlongg Dominion calls home. In addition to the
Shlongg, the Hive also contains many strange items, artefacts and physical
phenomena. Our current understanding of them will be detailed in the following
sections.
The Power Seeds are released from some energy crystals when they are destroyed.
They can be distinguished by their rounded bottoms and the blue trail they
leave behind them.
"Expander"
|
The Expander Power Seed increases the size of your ship. It's power is
accumulative up to 3 times. However, a very large ship is a double-edged sword:
It makes it easier to keep the spheres in the chamber, but also makes your ship
an easier target and makes it difficult to avoid bad packages in the tunnels.

"Glue"
|
The Glue Power Seed causes the energy spheres to stick to your ship until
you choose to release them.
|
"Guns"
|
The Guns Power Seed adds a powerful plasma weapon to your ship. This weapon can
be used on Crystals, Larvae, Shlongg Warriors and Moving Targets.
|
"Turbo"
|
The Turbo Power Seed is a one time permanent upgrade to your ship's engines.
|
"Bigball"
|
The Bigball Power Seed temporarily increases the size and damage done by all
spheres in the chamber that were active when the Seed was activated.
|
"Backwall"
|
The Backwall Power Seed temporarily seals in the chamber, preventing spheres
from escaping.
|
"Multiball"
|
The Multiball Power Seed adds 3 new energy spheres to the chamber.
|
"Extra Life"
|
The Extra Life Power Seed adds a new ship to your fleet. It is a special Power
Seed and leaves a green trail instead of blue.
|
"Slowball"
|
The Slowball Power Seed temporarily slows the velocity of all energy
spheres active in the chamber when the Seed was activated.
|
"Shield"
|
The Shield Power Seed is the most common Power Seed. Catching one will add a
layer of shielding to your ship. This shield will protect your ship from Power
Darts and Enemy Attacks.
|
"W.M.D."
|
The W.M.D. Power Seed is the Shlongg Dominion's most powerful weapon. With it
you can destroy and entire chamber or a large section of Tunnel. It
is a special Power Seed and leaves a white trail.

"Laserball"
|
The Laserball Power Seed temporarily changes the nature of all active energy
spheres to allow them to cut directly through the crystals instead of
deflecting off them
|
"Drone"
|
The Drone Power Seed summons a Goalie Pupa to stay behind your ship and attempt
to keep sphere's from leaving the chamber. As it is still developing, it can
only withstand a few hits before it is destroyed.

"Score x 2"
|
The Score X 2 Power Seed temporarily increases all score values by two.
|
"Score x 4"
|
The Score X 4 Power Seed temporarily increases all score values by four.
|
"Omegaball"
|
The Omegaball Power Seed is a combination of the Laserball and Bigball Power
Seeds that can help clear a chamber very quickly.
|
The Power Darts are released from some energy crystals when they are destroyed.
Some will be lauched at your ship by enemies. They can be distinguished by
their pointed bottoms and the red (or yellow, if from an enemy) trail they
leave behind them.
"Bomb"
|
The Bomb Power Dart will destroy your ship if it hits it.
|
"Freeze"
|
The Freeze Power Dart will disable your ships controls for a very short time.
Maybe you'll have time to recover, maybe you won't.
|
"Heavy"
|
The Heavy Power Dart temporarily increases your ship's mass. This makes it
harder to change directions quickly.
|
"Layer"
|
The Layer Power Dart replenishes the chamber with 10 new crystals when
activated. If the chamber has not lost 10 crystals yet, they will be
replenished as crystals are destroyed.
|
"The Spins"
|
The Spins Power Dart sends the chamber rapidly spinning in random directions to
disorient pilots.
|
"Shrink"
|
The Shrink Power Dart decreases the size of your ship when activated. This
power is accumulative up to half the size of your ship's original dimensions.
|
"Smallball"
|
The Smallball Power Dart temporarily decreases the size of all active spheres
in the chamber.
|
"Oily"
|
The Oily Power Dart temporarily decreases the amount of friction acting on your
ship, making it more difficult to control.
|
Moving Targets is a general term for non-enemy objects that can be found moving
about some chambers. Some have an influence on the energy spheres, some on your
ship, and some will increase your score.
"Splitter"
|
When an energy sphere hits the Splitter, it is divided into 3 smaller energy
spheres. A split sphere cannot be split again.
|
"Wormhole"
|
The Wormhole exerts a gravitational pull on spheres passing by it. If the
sphere passes close enough it will be pulled in to the Wormhole, which will
disappear and reappear in a random location and spit out the sphere along the
same trajectory that it entered.

"Blackhole"
|
The Blackhole works in tandem with the Whitehole in a similar fashion to the
Wormhole. If an energy sphere enters a Blackhole, it will immediately emerge
along the same trajectory from the Whitehole.
|
"Whitehole"
|
The White hole works in tandem with the Blackhole. The Whitehole will also
exert a gravitational push on spheres in close proximity.
|
"Burnhole"
|
The Burnhole exerts a small gravitational pull on spheres in proximity. If a
sphere enters a Burnhole, it will be lost.
|
"Omegaball"
|
Hitting the Omegaball target has the same effect as activating the Omegaball
Power Seed.
|
"Superscore"
|
Hitting the Superscore target has the effect of activating both the Score X2
and Score X4 Power Seeds.
|
"Ballbouy"
|
Hitting the Ballbouy target releases 3 new spheres into the chamber.
|
"Ballshocker"
|
Hitting the Ballshocker target will Supercharge all spheres currently in play.
|
"Lobotomizer"
|
Hitting the Lobotomizer target will scramble the brains of any Shlongg in the
chamber.
|
"Monomine"
|
Hitting the Monomine target will cause a large explosion that will damage
enemies and crystals within proximity.
|
"Decomine"
|
Hitting the Decomine target will cause a huge explosion that will damage
enemies and crystals within proximity.
|
"Disruptor"
|
Hitting the Disruptor target will destroy your ship's shields.
|
"Target 1"
|
Hitting this target will increase your score by 50.
|
"Target 2"
|
Hitting this target will increase your score by 200.
|
"Target 3"
|
Hitting this target will increase your score by 200.
|
"Target 4"
|
Hitting this target will increase your score by 100.
|
"Target 5"
|
Hitting this target will increase your score by 100.
|
"Target 6"
|
Hitting this target will increase your score by 200.
|
"Target 7"
|
Hitting this target will increase your score by 50.
|
"Target 8"
|
Hitting this target will increase your score by 75.
|
Tunnel Packages are organic and crystaline growths that are found along the
walls of the Hive Tunnels. Ships pick them up by colliding with them. Some have
positive effects, others negative. The following chart details our current
knowledge of the packages:
"Plus One"
|
Collecting this package will increase your score by 1.
|
"Plus Two"
|
Collecting this package will increase your score by 2.
|
"Plus Five"
|
Collecting this package will increase your score by 5.
|
"Plus Ten"
|
Collecting this package will increase your score by 10.
|
"Plus Twenty"
|
Collecting this package will increase your score by 20.
|
"Plus Fifty"
|
Collecting this package will increase your score by 50.
|
"Ammo"
|
Collecting this package will increase your Guns ammunition by 12.
|
"Shields"
|
Collecting this package will increase your Shields by 1.
|
"Speeder"
|
Collecting this package will accellerate your ship to top speed.
|
"Spin Left"
|
Collecting this package will quickly spin your shipto the left.
|
"Spin Right"
|
Collecting this package will quickly spin your ship to the right.
|
"Minus Fifty"
|
Collecting this package will decrease your score by 50.
|
"Minus One Hundred"
|
Collecting this package will decrease your score by 100.
|
"Minus Two Hundred Fifty"
|
Collecting this package will decrease your score by 250.
|
"Drainer"
|
Collecting this package will decrease your shields by 3. If your ship does not
have shield your score will be reduced by 500.
|
"Leecher"
|
Collecting this package remove any Powers currently active on your ship.
